Good News but Concerns Continue

December, 2006

  Good News

  • Redevelopment Phase #1 for Ajax/Pickering Hospital - moving forward – that’s very good news.

  • Several new Doctors are joining the staff at APH – we’ll pass along details.

  • The University of Toronto wants to train doctors at both RVHS sites - an exciting project - let's hope it happens.

  Concerns

APH must maintain a major role in our communities’ health care.

But, do the people really have a strong voice?

Learn about the “Governance” of our hospital system – the rules determining:

  • What programs come…and go,
  • Who gets hired…and fired,
  • Who is heard …and who is not,
  • How are our reps. (Board Directors) chosen?

                <Coming in January - a “PRIMER ON GOVERNANCE” >

Other issues for the New Year

  1. The Regional Birthing Centre at Centenary Hospital – the wrong place!
  2. A proposed new hospital for Whitby – a good idea?
  3. Phase Two of the APH redevelopment – when?
  4. Population based funding – long overdue!
  5. Better health care close to home - priceless!
