Voters'
Demand Answers on Hospital Underfunding
Thanks
to our support of the GTA/905 postcard campaign and posters, politicians
are taking note of GTA/905 funding gaps. Health care,
specifically growth funding formulas, is part of party platforms in some
cases.
GTA
Hospitals Don't Get Their Fair Share
“And
even though GTA / 905 constituents pay
the
same provincial taxes as everyone else, they receive $453 per person in
health care funding compared to the provincial average for health care
funding of $804 per person. This funding gap will continue to widen, as
more and more people move into the area.”

WHAT
NEEDS TO BE DONE!!!
The
Provincial Government should:
1.
Provide
hospital growth funding for growth regions’ hospitals, health
care and social services.
2.
Allocate
provincial funding for health and social services based on population
size, characteristics and growth, i.e., “population-needs-based
funding”.
3.
Develop
a health care and social service strategy for Ontario ’s
high growth regions to complement Places to Grow***.
***PLACES
TO GROW ACT, 2005 (BILL 136)
On
June 13, 2005, the Places to Grow Act, 2005 received Royal Assent. The Act
provides a legal framework for the government to designate any geographic
area of the province as a growth plan area and to develop a growth plan in
consultation with local officials and stakeholders. http://www.pir.gov.on.ca/English/growth/ptg-act-2005.htm
***Over
the next 30 years, the number of people living in Ontario is expected to
grow by approximately four million. http://www.pir.gov.on.ca/English/growth/index.html
